Occasionally we would meet and travel to sightseeing locations and have a great time as friends would. When she got married, we all had a splendid wedding party and it was even better because she got married to one of my friends as well. We were like one big happy family. Now, the day that she was blessed with triplets I had been posted further from them and making it to welcome the babies was almost impossible. So I had to find a way to try and be there for her and her family otherwise I would want to see her on my door step with those three kids, I live in a very cold city which would be a bad environment for them at that tender age. It had been snowing for a while and the weather was terribly bad. Flights were being cancelled and the roads, well the roads were not only impassable but it would take me forever to get to them. While waiting at the airport hoping to get a flight and connect, a lady who was sitting right next to me did something that enlightened me. She was holding a laptop and I could hear her talking over the phone to someone who sounded like her daughter. She was telling the person on the other end of the line to check her email address since she had sent her an “I Love You” eCard and was on her way. I had not used the service before but it took me only a few minutes to learn from the friendly lady and I sent my congratulations eCard to my friend. I became a fun of using eCards after a time when I almost embarrassed my dad and myself for not sending a wish you well or quick recovery card to my young son after he was injured in a school soccer game. The day he arrived, he noticed that I was mad at him but he could not understand why. Before I thought of asking him about it, a call came in from work as some of my colleagues wanted to say hi. They also alerted me to check my email and it was while doing that I noticed a handful of eCards from people including dads. He had even sent one for me which was for my birthday that was in the same week. After talking about it, we all laughed and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

A favoured trait of eCards is they are entertaining, fun and always make recipients smile. They are extremely easy for senders, yet they are thoughtful and special. Paper greeting cards are nice, but people toss them anyway. Beyond birthdays, I enjoy sending cards to friends struggling with job or family stresses, having recently celebrated great news or dealing with bad news or circumstances. One friend gets a card from me to say hello and to serve as a reminder I miss her and hope to meet out for a glass of wine or two in the near future. I find something humorous to send her to make her smile and remind her what her time means to me when life gets stressful.

I enjoy letting those I care about know what they mean to me. As it always turns out, sending the eCards means as much to me as I suspect they do to those receiving them. While the dates do sometimes sneak up on me and I am often feverishly sending a last-minute eCard, I always have the best of intentions and my friends and family know that. Thousands of Royal Mail managers are to be balloted for strike action in a row over job cuts in the first move of its kind since 1979, the year of the Winter of Discontent.

Unite said 8,500 managers based in head offices at the Royal Mail, Parcelforce and the Post Office will vote on whether to launch a campaign of industrial action.

Any strikes would potentially disrupt the sending of Christmas cards and presents for millions of people.  It could also severely damage many small businesses that rely on the post.  Union officials said any industrial action by managers would have “significant impact on collections, deliveries and the general running of Royal Mail and the post office”.

If they went on strike it could remove a key layer of decision-making middle management, potentially plunging the service into chaos.

Whilst Wayne Rooney has been happily celebrating his Birthday with his wife Coleen 3,500 miles away in Dubai, Stoke fans have been delivering their greetings with a difference to the mark the big day.

Three male Potters fans donned make-up and skimpy womens’ clothing at the Britannia Stadium on the day Rooney turned 25.

Before the match with Manchester United, they were pictured holding up signs poking fun at the allegations that he cheated on wife Coleen with a prostitute.

Rooney, who eventually performed a dramatic U-turn to sign a staggering £250,000 a week contract at Old Trafford, has cancelled his planned £90,000 Birthday bash at his home in Cheshire.

After making his peace with boss Alex Ferguson and his team-mates, Rooney will now want to get the United fans back onside.

What are the chances?

Najla was born at 2am on October 7, 2005, at North Staffordshire Hospital when the couple were living in Stoke-on-Trent. She was two weeks overdue and had to be induced.

Adam was born at the same hospital at 8.30pm two years later. He was one week overdue but was born without intervention from hospital staff.

The family moved to Eastbourne two years ago and had Sami at 9.40am last Thursday – another natural birth despite being ten days after his due date.

Mrs Allali added: ‘They can grow up together and all have their birthdays together and something to share. It is a special little bond between them.

‘The birthdays are going to be a logistical nightmare. If we think ahead, Najla will turn 21 on the same day Adam will be 19 and Sami 16. Imagine that.

‘Affording the big day for all three is going to be quite difficult. We haven’t really thought about it yet. Maybe we’ll have to buy presents throughout the year to afford it all.
